Defensive tackle, 1993, Green Pond, N.J., selected by Walter Camp as a All-American in 1993. Started all 49 games in his career and was Penn State’s first semifinalist for the Lombardi Award. Benfatti was the 60th Penn Stater to earn first-team All-America recognition and the 45th under coach Joe Paterno. Benfatti recorded 64 tackles, six tackles for loss, five sacks, an interception, three pass break-ups and one fumble recovery. Benfatti also forced a fumble in each of the last four regular-season games. Benfatti made 179 career tackles (109 solo), including 25 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and two interceptions. Benfatti was a team captain, and he played in the 1994 East-West Shrine and the game MVP for Senior Bowl game. Benfatti played three seasons (1994-96) for the New York Jets after being selected in the third round of the 1994 National Football League draft. He lives in Oak Ridge, N.J.,(wife Jodi).
