What are essential (focus) questions?

Essential questions are the anchor of your paper...
they will drive your research forward!

Read broadly (encyclopedias) on your topic and determine what you know and what you need to know.

From your need to know, write who, what, where, why, when and how questions...do not limit yourself to the 5 W's and 1 H.

Focus on the essential questions when you are reading and taking notes.

Your research should answer your essential questions (option to revise your essential questions).

Your essential questions will lead you to your thesis statement.
