Counselors at Morris Hills

Morris Hills has six highly talented counselors who are ultimately responsible for every student at the school. The head of the Guidance Department is Ms. Yesenia (Jessie) Rivera. Below you will find all the information you need to know about your counselor

Mitarotonda 504 Coordinator/Student Assistance Counselor, Grades 9-12

*Mrs. Lugo is also the counselor for all students enrolled in the Magnet and ESL programs and for any students who have elected to have a bilingual counselor.

**Mrs. Young is the counselor for all students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Mrs. Hourihan
Mrs. Yvonne Hourihan. Mrs. Hourihan began working in the Morris Hills Regional District in 1982. Before she became a counselor she was a teacher. She taught Psychology, Health, and Social Studies at Morris Knolls. During the 90s, Mrs. Hourihan joined the Social Studies Department here at Morris Hills. Before joining the Guidance Department she served as the Student Assistance Counselor. Mrs. Hourihan earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1977 from Montclair State University. She earned her Master's degree in Human Services in 1985, also from Montclair State University.

Laura Lugo

Mrs. Laura Lugo. Mrs. Lugo is a graduate of Douglas College of Rutgers University where she spent a year learning in Spain at the University of Velencia. She later completed her Masters Degree from William Paterson, and now works in the Guidance Department. Before becoming a counselor, Mrs. Lugo taught Spanish for Morris Hills for 11 years. She enjoys playing with her two boys and running after work.

Mrs. Heather McDonald. Mrs. McDonald has worked at Morris Hills Regional District since 2002 in the Social Studies Department. She became a Guidance Counselor here at Morris Hills in March, 2005. Mrs. McDonald attended the University of Maryland where she earned her B.S. in Secondary Education. She furthered her education by earning a Masters of Education in Counseling from William Paterson University. Heather McDonald enjoys traveling, playing cards, and watching sports. Ms. Mitarotonda
Ms. Nicole Mitarotonda. Ms. Mitarotonda has been working at Morris Hills High School since the 2002 school year. Before coming to Morris Hills, she worked in a residential facility in Hackensack, where she provided therapeutic services for children and adolescents. She was also as an adjunct at Caldwell College, where she taught Developmental and Adolescent Psychology. Ms. Mitarotonda earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Marist College. She also obtained her first Masters in Clinical Psychology (focus on addiction) as well as her SAC certification from FDU. Her second Masters degree is from Montclair State University in Administration and Supervision.

Mr. Jon Roman. Mr. Roman started at Morris Hills High School in 2011. A graduate of Morris Hills, he is glad to be returning to his alma mater and looks forward to working with Morris Hills students and staff.

Mrs. Stuby

Mrs. Susan Young. Mrs. Young has been working at Morris Hills High School since the 2001 school year. Before coming to Morris Hills, she was a special education teacher in the Wharton Borough School District for four years. She taught many subjects in grades 5-8. Mrs. Young earned her Bachelors degree in Liberal Art and her Masters degree in Counselor Education from Hofstra University. Mrs. Young has enjoyed working with the students in this district.

Ms. Yesenia (Jessie) Rivera. Ms. Rivera earned her B.A. in Psychology from York College and her M.S. in School Counseling from Long Island University, C.W. Post.  She also earned her Principal Certification from Montclair State University.  Ms. Rivera began her career at Morris Knolls as a Guidance Counselor in March of 2002.   In 2010, Ms. Rivera joined the Morris Hills family in the position of Supervisor of Guidance. Ms. Rivera loves playing Volleyball, Softball, and spending time with her family.
