Summer Reading Program Philosophy The Morris Hills Regional District’s Summer Reading Program is founded on the belief that encouraging students to read on a year-round basis is a key element in the development of lifelong learners. In an effort to promote reading across the curriculum, teaching for transfer, and increase participation in a communal reading experience in our buildings and across the district, we will launch the first district-wide summer read, mandatory for all students attending Morris Hills High School and Morris Knolls High School. If you would like to recommed a book for Summer Reading 2012, please complete the survey below:http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22DBNUPJTQVWith the support of the faculty, administration, local book stores, and public libraries, all students entering grades 9-12 will be required to read the same book. Teachers, administrators, and parents are all encouraged to join in as well. Last year’s district-wide selection was The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch. This title was chosen for its universal themes of gratitude, love, loyalty, work ethic, time, relationships, and "what matters in 'Real' life" among many more. When students arrived in September, they worked with their English teachers and other participating teachers to build a community around the books they have read. The answer to the following essential question is at the heart of the text: How does making every day count shape life's journey? Please be advised that there are additional titles for Academy, Honors, and AP students selected by teachers of the same course.
Assignment for Honors, AP, and Academy students: Assessment for Honors, AP, and Academy students: CRIS JOURNALS will be counted as the equivalent of a quiz grade according to the attached rubric.(See file titled C.R.I.S. Journal Rubric ~ The Grade in .pdf format) LINKS AND FILES
